-Blue Gold Information-

Blue Gold
can replace nearly all of the cleaning processes in use today. To explain this in a simple manner, let's look at industrial cleaning and the chemical cleaning products in general use today. Industrial cleaning has changed very little in the past 50 years. Then as now, the principle methods of cleaning are dip tanks, spray washers, steam cleaning and the chemical products used, such as solvents, caustics and acids. Let's look at each type of product separately.

Solvents: This group is divided roughly into two classes, halogenated and non-halogenated. Halogenated hydro-carbons are primarily used in vapor degreasing systems. They are hazardous to use and to dispose of, and they are expensive. Redistillation can lower costs, but the quality is not as good as new material. The greatest advantage of halogenated hydro-carbons is there speed. Non-halogenated hydro-carbons are used primarily in dip tanks or hand wiping applications The problem is that any oil or grease removed from the parts being cleaned become an inseparable part of the total solution. As cleaning continues, the oils and grease build up until when a part is cleaned, the solvent exaporates and oily deposits remain on the parts.

Caustics: These comprise the largest volume of use over the years. Recently in an attempt to eliminate negative feelings about the word "caustic" they have started calling themselves "Alkaline Cleaners". This has created a great deal of confusion. Many people now associate "alkaline" and "caustic". This is not a true association. Caustics are designed as chemicals that eat or burn away tissue, corrosive. It is true that all caustics are highly alkaline, however, it is not true that all highly alkaline products are caustic. Alkalinity is measured by many terms, commonly by pH. pH is the position on a scale denoting the negative logarithm of the hydrogen ion concentration in grams per liter. This ranges up (alkaline) or down (acidic) from 7 which is neutral.

For example, Blue Gold in concentrate form has a pH of 13. However, our toxicological tests show no damage when placed against the abraded skin of lab rabbits for a twenty-four hour period. There was no irreversible damage or deaths.

Thus, Blue Gold in not caustic or corrosive. Caustics clean by "eating" the contaminant off the parts being cleaned. As this occurs, the contamination is emulsified by the caustic. Also, as the caustic cleans, it consumes itself and tends to return toward neutral, or pH of 7, and more caustic must be added to maintain cleaning. When the solution is no longer usable, the entire solution is hazardous waste, which means it must be trucked away and handled as hazardous or it must go through an expensive waste water treatment to break down the solution and allow the water to be separated from the oils and other contaminants.

Acids: Acids are no longer in frequent use except as a preliminary for plating. Acids clean exactly the same as casutics, except their pH is low rather than high. The same problems with disposal exists and in addition, acids generate hazardous fumes in use, so high volume air ventilation is normally required.

"Simple Mechanism": Let us compare the above with Blue Gold. As opposed to "eating" contamination off parts, Blue Gold gets under the contamination and lifts it off. Being a water-dilutable product, the oils and grease separate and come to the surface when agitation is turned off. Particulate material settles to the bottom of the cleaning tank, so by removing the oil and filtering out the particulate material, the spent solution can be disposed of readily. Also, by keeping the oil off the solution, the life of the product can be greatly extended. The only need for additional solution is to make up for drag-out.

The Blue Gold solution is completely safe while in use and is safe for the environment when disposal is required. Blue Gold can degrease as well as chlorinated hydro-carbon cleaners and will clean better that any similar products we have encountered.

Safe for all Metals: There is another area we should discuss. In many industries, chemical must be purchased for ferrous metals and another chemical for non-ferrous metals. With Blue Gold there is no requirement for different cleaning chemicals for differents metals. Blue Gold is safe for ALL metals, ferrous and non-ferrous. Also in industry, there is normally a different chemical product for dip tanks, spray washers, ultrasonic cleaning units, high pressure sprayers, steam cleaners and hand wiping. Blue Gold will eliminate the need for many various cleaning chemicals. Blue Gold works in ALL methods and applications. To the best of our knowledge, there is no other product on the market as versatile as Blue Gold.

Tank Life: There is another area where we need to explain the life of a Blue Gold solution. It is impossible to give specific times, as the life of the solution is determined by many variables. Most important is the amount of parts being processed. A Blue Gold solution will last many times longer than any other solution we have ever experienced. Conservatively, four to five times longer. Obviously, when the solution ceases to clean, it is time for a change. This period can be lengthened by keeping the solution reasonably clean. Being primarily an aqueous solution, oils and grease will come to the surface, especially during periods of no agitation. These can be removed in any manner disired. Some methods are: skimming, absortion, vacumming, an oil wheel or an oil belt.

Pacific Rim Group can advise as to type of particulate filter, oil filters and oil pads in industry use today. Another consideration is rinsing. Normally rinsing is not required, however, if rinsing is utilized, the solution can be used for an extended period of time. The solution strength will decrease with use, due to drag-out.

Simple Solution: A simple method to keep the solution at full strength is to monitor the pH of the solution. A check should me made of the pH immediately after the solution is generated (made up). The pH can then be checked periodically. Any .1 change in pH can be remedied by adding 0.1% of the total tank volume in concentrate. For example: a 1000 liter tank experiences a pH change of 10%, then if the tank volume (tv) is multiplied by 0.1%, this would give the amount of Blue Gold concentrate needed to restore the pH back to its original state. In this case, one (1) liter of Blue Gold concentrate would restore the pH.

Blue Gold has found favor in many applications. Everything from cleaning steel gears to cleaning titanium. Being safe for all metals, ferrous and non-ferrous, the list of possible applications for Blue Gold are endless. We would be pleased to discuss any special application at anytime, however, if your parts are being cleaned with any other competitive chemical product, Blue Gold will do the job, better and less expensive, without the harmful effects to the workplace, environment or employees.
